The only way to learn anything about family law is to actually get online (as you obviously are now) and research family law. It isn’t something that can be taught in one paragraph or thoroughly explained. Go to the link below.

Isn’t that what you’ll be doing in college?

honey you really dont want to do family law. You would do so much better in some other type of law. Realestate may not be the best choice either depending on where you live. If your anygood criminal justice pays well. What i suggest is you check out the area that you are going to be practicing law in and see what is propsering. But things may change in an area. Family law just isnt fun.

DO NOT listen to redvelvet - to not get your information “on line.” You have no idea how many laymen think they know about family law - and most don’t. Most of what you will find on line is disgruntled former spouses talking about how they got screwed by the system. No help whatsoever. I don’t know what you mean by “you will be doing law next year” unless you mean you will be going to law school. There you will learn all you need to know until you get out and work under a family lawyer who can teach you the ropes. If you mean you will be starting a support job in a family law firm and don’t know anything about it - good luck [and have a back up position]. Also, take the advice given above - don’t do family law. It is the most unrewarding, cut throat, nasty specialty in the legal business and I would rather scrub floors despite all my years in law school than ever be involved in family law again. [Did it for 4 years and still have nightmares!]

You can Google “Family Law” and your state and find out any preliminary information.
I would guess that at the undergrad level you’ll just be studying custodial rights, premarital agreements and divorce decrees.
With any law course, its advisable that you keep up with the reading, many professors assign a high amount of reading for each class. It also may not be a bad idea to buy a Blacks’ law Dictionary…you can get one off Amazon or eBay.
