DUI in Los Angeles?

dui los angeles
Jon V asked:

I got my first ever dui. And believe me I’m really sorry. I figure I have a mountain to climb now to restore things back to normal. Question is, does anyone know what the fines will be for a first timer? In addition, how about lawyers fees? How long will I be without a license?
I was arrested with a .10 bac.

I just went to court for a dui for san bernardino county. The DA offered me a deal because it was my first offense and I only blew a .10. $650 fine and alcohol classes. You’ll get your license back when you sign up for the classes. It all depends on what your bac was. You might end up havin to pay $1600 if you blew high.

I was under the impression that a DUI in CA and the DMV takes your license, no questions asked, for at LEAST one year. I might be off, though.

The fine varies from county to county. Sorry but I do not know what to expect in LA. A 1st offense with a clean driving record may not be too bad.
An attorney will cost you more then the fine but it can be worth it. The attorney will know the going rate for the area & will also know the alternatives. He deals with the DA’s office all the time so may be able to get your best deal. The more work put into the case the higher the fees. If he simply negotiates a plea bargain, not too bad. If you plead not guilty & go to trial, just sign over your 1st born.
You only asked about fines & attorney fees. You will most likely be sent to DUI school which is another expense. And your insurance will see a dramatic increase for the next 3 years.
A conviction does not automatically result in a driving privilege suspension. If you refused a blood alcohol test, THAT is automatic - unless you hire one hell of an attorney. Then you are probably looking at 6 months bumming rides. And yet another expense — DMV charges you to reinstate your license no matter why it was suspended.
The 1st arrest is not meant to kill you. Just to make you think twice the next time you have had 1-2 drinks.

Jon, the rising incidents of DUI has made the law makers in LA to take DUI more strictly than ever. The BAC limit in Los Angeles in 0.08%. The first timers would face heavy fines, probation and license suspension and penalties like jail time and ignition interlock devices if the charge is that of a Felony. That is why a specialist attorney in dui must be hired. For lawyers fees, you need to hire a specialist & they are expensive but honestly if you find a good one, so they worth it.
