Dui?
brigette b asked:
I live in Florida. I got a DUI last spring (April). My attorney is trying to get me out of it, and personally I think, why should he? I was driving under the influence.
This whole thing still hasn’t blown over. What should I do, give me some advice.
I never drink and drive, it was just that one time and of course I got caught.

do what you have to do, bad things always happen to good people, so if you know that your not a drunk driver try to beat it but never let it happen again

Your attorney wants more money to continue “his” cause I would guess. He’s the hired gun so tell him what you want. The first one won’t amount to much more than 6 classes, non reporting probation, and a 90 day suspension. Don’t get another cause they will stick ya much worse.

Yes you broke the law and yes there is a penalty for it. I believe you got a lawyer in order to prevent jail time and excessive fines since it was your first offense. you only have two options let the lawyer do his or her job which is why you are paying for him or fire the lawyer and take whatever punishment the government wants to dish out. And trust me they will dish it out.

The older it gets the colder it gets.

Well, you have already paid him all the money right? Or does he keep charging more as you go? Seems like it should be over with by now so maybe that is a good sign tho. If its your first one you dont have too much to worry about anyways. You shouldnt be doing any jail time. Just fines, classes, counseling, loss of license and maybe having to get special insurance to get it back. At least you learned your lesson.
My idiot sons father got his THIRD DUI in FL right before Christmas and might be getting off probation already this week. He got a lawyer and got lucky with NO jail time and basically the same punishement as a first timer. He better have learned his lesson. I already moved to NC with our son and he is planning on moving here as soon as he finds out if he is off probation early or not. He wont be living with me tho (not that you care, lol). I found him an apt half a mile from here conveniently located near a bus stop cause I am NOT driving his butt around.

My sons first DUI he plead guilty, got 6 months probation, 1-yr license suspension, took the drivers classes and paid out maybe 600.00 total. He did the community service to pay down the fines and reduce his probation and had his license back in 6 months as well. You can always apply for a hardship license for work. Shitt happens and it’s better to face the music and be humble before the courts and probabtion officers.
We’re in Florida too in Seminole County.

Take responsibility for your actions.
You will waste a lot of money trying to fight the system when you are guilty.
I got a DWI a hear and a half ago. I didn’t fight it and I learned a lot about myself. It is a traumatic experience and it will make you a better person to own up to it.

hi there, i had one earlier this year, i acquired an attorney and just blew 2 k on her, when the fine ended up being about 1600, if it is your first offense, plead no contest, pay the fine and move on, you’ll also have to attend a drug and alcohol class for about six months, once a week, their boring, but you’ll have ur life back, good luck!

I commend you for knowing you were driving under the influence and intend to pay the consequences. You said, it was only your first time, That is good reason, just think how many times a person drives under the influence, some, years, some months, then they get caught ( ONCE) . Once compared to years of DUI freely, think of the deaths they could have cost. So once is only the first lesson, again thanks for your honesty etc

If this is your first DUI, then you are paying an attorney for doing what you could be doing. Talk to the cop and explain that you no longer drink and drive - you will never do it again, apologize and thank him for saving your life and that of other drivers. See if he is willing to take back the DUI ticket and reissue you another one for reckless driving. Or see if there are any classes for first time DUI offenders in your area that will expunge the DUI once you’ve completed the course. Call your local law enforcement agency and check out any alternative actions to the DUI. There’s a lot you could be doing and you would go further without an attorney charging you a lot of money and then pissing off the cops.

You should sit back and take what’s given to you. You said yourself you know better. Of course you drink and drive, that’s what the offense was for. I’m sorry, but you really should take what’s coming to you. You should consider yourself lucky that you didn’t hurt anyone else.
