Family Law Attorney Problems where and how do you report them to the BAR?
GoKings asked:
This is my “THIRD” Attorney in regard to a custody case with my children ages 7 & 11 I am the father and the rights have been sided with the mother for the most part until I FINALLY after 5 years have documented proof from my ex wifes family and from police reports. With again the Attorney basically just taking my money and not doing anything beyond what I have asked. Otherwise the attorney didn’t do anything on my behalf to benifit me unless I requested it even child support was not asked for until I mentioned it and then She said “OH YOU WANTED CHILD SUPPORT?” I will have to file a second motion once again costing more money and another day in court which takes from 2-3 months each time to get a court date. I am in CALIFORNIA -

To file a complaint:
In the event the above link does not work, go to
click on “Public Services” (left side of page);
in the list you’ll see “file a complaint against an attorney” (click on it).
You’ll get info - also to the left, you’ll see a link for the “complaint form” and FAQs.
{I may be back with more info in a few minutes.]
OK, this is what I was going to come back with:
Today, most lawyers (I believe) are members of the American Bar Association. I checked their website. They refer complaints to the state - and to the address, basically, that I already gave you. However, here is some info — names, fax numbers, etc., that might get you started:
Directory of Lawyer Disciplinary Agencies (webpage):
It gives these two addresses with phone/faxes:
State Bar of California
1149 South Hill Street, 10th Floor
Los Angeles, CA 90015-2299
213/765-1468
FAX: 213/765-1029
Website:
State Bar of California
180 Howard Street, 6th Floor
San Francisco, CA 94105-1639
415/538-2063
FAX: 415/538-2214
Write one or both (make some noise).
Good luck.
