You and your husband need to sit down with them and find out why they are like they are, you don’t say what the problems are.

Live your life in the enviromental way that you are comfortable with. If the in-laws cannot accept that, that’s their problem not yours. Don’t make it an issue, other people are not always right and do not always know what is best for someone else.
