You will be required to be on duty 24 hours a day (on call after regular working hours, just like a regular policeman), and be required to stand duty days, where you are required to be at the base or wherever you're stationed from the beginning of one work day until the end of the next work day. Shore stations usually have personnel split into 4 to 6 duty sections. MAA's on ships (sea-duty) usually stand duty in 3 section daily rotation.

Other than your duty days, you will be able to go home every night, just like a regular job, unless circumstances dictate otherwise. However, if on shore-duty, you MAY be required to work different shifts on rotation, just like a regular policeman.

it all depends on what your duties are, how far you are, how many duty sections you have, your command, your supervisor. im from dc and i was stationed in norfolk as an operations specialist. when we were in port i went home every weekend. the longest i have been away was OIF, and OEF.
