is it required by law to pay for a family plan autoinsurance if you are married and not apply as single?

family law
John T asked:

My wife and kids have many accidents and tickets, I have nothing, but the auto insurance companies insisted to charge me too much for a family plan as required by law even if we are separated or everyone agreed to pay individually. Why I pay for other peoples mistakes?

you’re only going to beat this if the wife/kids don’t have driver’s licenses and/or live far away.

the insurance companies have had too many losses from family members who “borrow” the car.

Most policies require that family member be listed on your policy if they live in your household.

You have to either cover them, or specifically exclude them from your policy, because EVERYONE KNOWS that they’re going to be driving your cars. So most insurance companies won’t agree to exclude them.

Most states don’t recognize legal seperation.

You pay for others mistakes, because YOU MARRIED AND BROUGHT THEM INTO THE WORLD. This is life! When you hitch your wagon to a horse, you’re stuck with the consequences for a long, long time. Man up!
