Who do you have to report to? There is nothing here that tells me the real situation. If this relative was a citizen, and had worked and paid into Social Security, or held any retirement stuff, then of course, you need to let these types of organizations know. Beyond that, did she own any property, have any bank accounts, credit cards, etc., etc., whatever, those things need to be resolved. So just because she has been away from the country for three years that does not mean all of the former stuff she had done in the USA was completely cleared up. I would suggest that you find out if she has a lawyer here in the USA, see if a will is available, and find out what kinds of assets and debts she has. Good luck with this. Sorry for your loss.
