I just recently inherited a substantual amout of $ from a family member. My ex-common law wife found out about it, and threatened to sue for a peice of it, stating that she is entitled to her share. We were separated long before I inherited. I say she is not entitled. I have full custody of our child, I told her to leave me alone or I would sue her for child support–this was just a scare tactic on my behalf–the $ is for the upbringing of my child, and a good amount has been put into a savings account for my childs future. We are from a common law state and are legally seperated.

How is it possible that a family could have had their Mom committed against her will? What does the law say?

What would the mother had to have done to be involuntarily committed to a mental institution? Would she had to have committed a crime? How can a family member have control over an individual?

Does anyone know the Michigan law on committing a family member for mental observation?

We are having issues with a member of our family addicted to prescription drugs. This is very servere and has been gettin gworse for about 6 years. We need to get him help ASAP, but he won’t want to go. Does anyone know if we can take him somewhere that they will make him stay or can they leave whenever they want? I’ve heard that a hopital will make him stay until we sign him out, is this true? Or do we have to involve the law to have that happen? Thanks in advance.

Would you tip off law enforcement on someone related to you if they had a serious problem, that jeopardizes your own home and family?
Not blood related even, say they were your significant other’s family member.

Like your husbands bastard brother?
It’s not a life-threatening thing, it’s more of a drug problem. We just had a baby, I don’t want her taken away because his brother has a severe drug problem.
