During proceedings concerning child support and custody situations is there ever an option of simply splitting custody jointly and completely absolving either party of child support payment?

I’m not familiar with family law at all- have no idea what happens in those sessions but I’m curious because i don’t think I’ve ever heard of situations where both parents simply split custody (half the time with papa and the other half with mama) and therefore ruling that neither party should pay child support.

And wouldn’t this make more sense than mandatory child support payments?- I don’t know the answer to this- hence the asking of the question
Oh and this question is meant to imply even if there is a difference in income
thanks Joe but I meant as a primary option if feasable (they live close enough to make it work for example) even if one party would rather take the money

I am paying child support for my daughter in my previous marriage. I caught my ex wife cheating on me, and filed for divorce. Her being the mother, she got primary custodian of our daughter, and I got standard visitation. I am having to pay child support, which I have NO problem against because I love my daughter, however, I am now remarried, and we are expecting twins. Well, technically, child support is based on your income. Do you people who think im saying my daughter is worth less, does that mean my twins should have to suffer so all my money goes to my daughter? Come on, Im being serious here, not looking for your stupid mouthy comments.

I know that if they get income tax monies that they have to pay their back child support with their return. My ex husband hasn’t ever paid any of his child support to me and he will eventually get inheritance money from his Mom and StepFather’s estate.
Would I be entitled to the money as well for back child support ?
