When my parents got divorced when I was 14, I stayed with my dad and my 8 year old brother, although both parents were cheating on each other. They got joint custody until we turned 18. It is not biased- it just depends which parent is more financially stable and psychologically stable to take care of children. Fathers usually leave the mother in most cases, so the mother gets custody most times. If you are a good father, you will get joint custody and if the children will prefer to live with you, then they will. The courts asked me where I thought it would be better for me to stay when I was 14. I chose my father...

Family courts aren't nearly as biased against fathers as they once were. In fact, in most cases, courts grant joint custody to parents. Albeit, frequently the mother is the residential parent. Fathers can be very involved if they chose to be.
