I don’t have a problem with legal immigrants who come here for the purpose of bettering themselves and becoming a part of the host country…some of my best friends have been legal immigrants. It’s the illegal immigrants who are spitting in the face of the legal immigrants, and I know how much time, effort, and money it cost my friends to do it the legal way. Illegal immigrants should not be given a free pass while it has cost the legal immigrants so much to do the same.

The only immigrants I would have a problem with, legal or illegal, are those who come here for the specific purpose of trying to make the host country’s laws and culture like their birth country’s. This is happening all the time, and the weak politicians and others are going along with it. Look at some European countries…they are being overrun with this type of immigration…immigrants who refuse to be a part of the host country and separate themselves from the native population while working to make the host country like the one they came from. tazzz

There have always been elements whose xenophobia gets hold of them. The early settlers were mostly Protestants, and they didn’t like the idea of Catholics coming into their country. Later it was the yellow hoard, and we even had to lock up loyal Japanese Americans during WWII.

Glen Beck and his ilk oppose immigrants–period. Call it un-American. Call it racist. Michael N

People will say they have no problem with legal immigrants, but they are lying, to you or themselves. It’s xenophobia, pure and simple, and they’ll curse those “damn far’ners” any time.

I’ll admit to being exasperated at times with legals who are struggling to adapt to language and customs, but as someone else said: at least they appear to be trying and working hard. ReX

Can’t imagine someone having a problem with legal immigrants, they are what has made the fabric of this nation so different from other countries. It’s why we are considered a melting pot. It’s the illegals that give pause. semper_paratus_1776

I don’t see many people having a problem with LEGAL immigrants, the problem comes from illegal immigrants who come to this country, take our jobs and then live off of our welfare. If you want to live in this country you need to follow the proper procedures to do so. I think the only problem with legal immigrants is that they do come into our country and take jobs from people who believe that they should be for born and bred American citizens. change_the_key

I think most people are OK with legal immigrants. the exceptions are those immigrants who come here legally or illegally and want to behave as if this was the place they came from. If you want to move to the U.S. legally and work on becoming a citizen I welcome you with open arms. I do ask however that you not fly your native flag above the American flag. Make an attempt to learn english and never EVER use the phrase, “Back in my country we did it like…..” If you moved here it was because you thought it would be better here. This is your country now.
